Ericksonian Practitioner
Milton Erickson
Milton Erickson was the foremost practitioner of Hypnotherapy in the USA and one of the
original therapeutic wizards modelled in the 70s by the co-founders of NLP,
Richard Bandler and John Grinder. Ericksons approach emphasised:
- meeting the client at their model - He considered each person unique and responded to
the whole person and their whole world.
- creating a theory for each person - He considered every person to be complete with the
necessary resources, but as yet not organised to accomplish the change themselves.
- vehicles of influence - He considered his words, intonations, use of language and body
movements, as vehicles of influence. He tailored them to each individual, utilising
anecdotes and metaphors, to assist them to make the desired changes.
- interventions - Using his incredible ability to see and hear the clients many
levels of communication, he identified the patterns and change processes most enhancing
for the client.
